Tour of “des Marche de Bretagne”

The border area known as “des Marche de Bretagne” was first mentioned in the 8th century and was strategic in protecting the Breton Duchy from the armies of the Kingdom of France during the XVth century. A line of fortresses extended from Dol-de-Bretagne to the bay of Bourgneuf-en-Retz (Loire-Atlantique) by way of Fougères, Vitré, Châteaubriant, Clisson… A tour of “des Marche de Bretagne”, beginning in the forest of Villecartier and extending to Antrain, illustrates the importance of this historic region for it’s diplomatic, cultural, economic and social exchanges.

 Tour of “Couesnon’s Valley”

Country of the granite, which appears in the middle of fields, valley of Couesnon alternates bocage and forest, collected valleys and vast plains. It offers to whom wants to discover it a beautiful journey among a big variety of landscapes. Leave on the meeting of a protected nature but also an authentic built heritage. 80 km in length, this marked out route will reveal you the country of Antrain but also the municipalities upstream on high Couesnon. Do not hesitate to make a stopping place in one of the numerous places fitted out to picnic or to practise an activity.
